What are your considerations to avoid or mitigate risks in e-commerce?

If I were an e-commerce business owner, my top priorities would be security and trust. To mitigate risks, I’d focus on several key areas:

 

Security:

 

Robust Payment Gateway: I use a reputable and secure payment gateway like Stripe or PayPal, ensuring PCI DSS compliance to protect customer financial data. I regularly review their security updates and implement any necessary changes.

SSL Certificate: An SSL certificate is a must-have, encrypting all communication between my website and customers' browsers. The padlock icon in the address bar reassures customers that their information is safe.

Regular Security Audits: I schedule regular security audits and penetration testing to identify and address vulnerabilities before malicious actors can exploit them. This proactive approach is crucial.

Strong Passwords and Two-Factor Authentication: I enforce strong password policies for all employees and myself, and I utilize two-factor authentication wherever possible to add an extra layer of security.

Data Encryption: All sensitive customer data, including personal information and payment details, is encrypted both in transit and at rest. This protects it from unauthorized access even if a breach occurs.

Firewall Protection: A robust firewall is essential to prevent unauthorized access to my servers and network. I regularly update its rules to address emerging threats.

Malware Scanning: I regularly scan my website and servers for malware and viruses to ensure they remain clean and secure.
