Activity 4.2 – Reflection

1. Can medical websites help you diagnose any health problems? Is it safe to take actions concerning your health based on advice from the web?

-        -  I've learned that while medical websites can be helpful for general health information, relying on them for diagnosis is risky. You might find yourself worrying about a serious condition based on a few symptoms, or even trying to treat yourself without professional guidance. It's crucial to remember that online symptom checkers are not a substitute for a doctor's visit. They can help get a general idea of what might be going on, but they should never be used to make decisions about your health without consulting a healthcare professional.

 2. It is critical to comprehend what "harmful online content" entails. International human rights law lays out a number of legitimate limitations on freedom of expression, particularly where it clashes with other rights. Incitement to violence or racial hatred, child sex imagery, and defamation are examples of topics that may be forbidden. International law requires that limits be finely specified and overseen by the courts in each case.

-          - It's vital to understand what constitutes "harmful online content" because it's not simply about restricting free speech. International human rights law recognizes that certain types of speech can be harmful and need to be limited. For example, incitement to violence, racial hatred, child sex imagery, and defamation are all considered harmful and can be restricted. However, these limitations must be clearly defined and overseen by courts to ensure they are applied fairly and don't stifle legitimate expression.

Do you have any experiences that you have had with any one of the challenges outlined above? How did you deal with it? What was the final outcome? What lessons did you learn?

-          - Yes, back then, when my family used the web to self-diagnose symptoms instead of seeing a doctor. It helped, but a doctor's advice is more valuable than any opinion online.

In terms of “harmful online content” what is happening right now in the Philippines, many people's opinions are clashing in terms of politics, some of my family members and friends online fight over what is right and wrong. I learned that we must mind our own business and respect others' views in things, there's no point in arguing with someone, and you can't simply change someone's view.
