ACTIVITY 8.2 – REFLECTION

Watch the video “What is the Internet of Things? And why should you care?” by Benson Hougland, TEDxTemecula ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AlcRoqS65E). Share your perspective on the significance of IoT in your daily life.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has become an increasingly significant part of my daily life, even if I don't always consciously think about it. It's woven into the fabric of my routine and my interactions with the world. The simple act of checking my email or reading the news on my phone involves a complex network of interconnected devices. My smart home devices, if I had them, would be constantly communicating with each other and with the internet, adjusting the lighting, temperature, and security systems based on my preferences and habits. My car, with its embedded sensors and connectivity, would be another node in this vast network.

The convenience is undeniable. The ability to control aspects of my environment remotely, receive real-time information, and automate tasks frees up time and mental energy. However, I also recognize the potential downsides. The constant collection of data raises concerns about privacy and security. My personal information, habits, and preferences are being tracked, and there's a risk that this data could be misused or fall into the wrong hands. The reliance on these interconnected systems also introduces vulnerabilities. If the network goes down, or if a device malfunctions, it can disrupt my daily routine and create significant inconvenience.

In short, the IoT presents a complex picture. The benefits are clear, but so are the potential risks. A thoughtful and responsible approach is needed to harness the power of the IoT while mitigating its potential negative impacts. The balance between convenience and security is a constant consideration.
